Vitamin C — Brightening Without Bleaching

How to even your tone without compromising your melanin.

Brightening. That word makes a lot of Black and brown men uncomfortable. And for good reason. The skincare industry spent decades pushing products that stripped melanin instead of working with it. Vitamin C is different. It doesn't bleach. It balances.

What Vitamin C Actually Does

Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin production. But it doesn't stop melanin. It regulates it. That means dark spots fade, but your natural tone stays intact. It also neutralizes free radicals from UV exposure and pollution. For men who work outside, commute in traffic, or live in cities, that's daily damage that shows up as uneven tone over time.

The Stability Problem

Most Vitamin C serums oxidize before you finish the bottle. They turn brown, lose potency, and stop working. That's because L-Ascorbic Acid is unstable in water-based formulas. The solution: stabilized derivatives. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate convert to active Vitamin C in your skin — but stay stable in the bottle.

How to Use It

Morning. Always. Vitamin C works synergistically with sunscreen. It doesn't replace SPF, but it enhances protection by neutralizing the free radicals that slip through. Apply after cleansing, before moisturizer. Give it 60 seconds to absorb before layering anything else on top.

Concentration Matters

10-20% is the sweet spot. Less than that, you won't see results. More than that, you risk irritation without added benefit. Our Treat serum uses 15% Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. It's stable, effective, and formulated for melanin-rich skin. No oxidation. No guesswork. Just consistent results. Brightening isn't about changing your skin. It's about revealing the clarity that's already there.
